Training a Team not Just a Horse

After training horses and bringing them back to their owners just to have them display the same issues for their riders that I took them in for, having to do ride demo after ride demo to show the horse is performing just as it should. Extending my training schedule for that horse another week just to show owners and riders how to ride and not just sit well in the saddle so there was real communication happening between horse and human. I realized there has to be a better way. But how? Then I got my first client who was training their own horse using a nationally published horse training method. She could not make the vital connection between what their horse already trained to perform the maneuver and hers being very stubborn to actually make what she knew should happen become reality. I came in and showed her the reality of horse training. No two horses train exactly the same and many are stubborn come with “baggage” from what another person has done while working with them that trains a bad habit or an undesirable reaction. Training videos are great they show you what it should look like but there is a lacking ingredient in most of them out there. They edit out all the time spent teaching the horse and the horse not finding the right answer. Where these people pick up is after the horse has found the right answer a few times and they know they will quickly come to it again. Otherwise you would be watching them work for possibly an hour or more on just one concept.  So I started developing Wild in the West Horsemanship in a new way. We became not just traditional trainers and riding instructors but a “link” between real people of all levels of experience and horses of all backgrounds and the treasures of natural horsemanship training and all the doors it can open up. Now the At Home Trainer Assistance Program is our most popular service from experienced at home trainers who run into difficult situations to kids wanting to learn how to train their own horse. To people just become horse owners and parents wanting to give their children a chance to fall in love with horses. And of course our rescue community who come across horses with very difficult pasts. Over the years we have become less about training your horse though we still offer it and more about training you and your horse to be the best team possible by bridging the gap in communication and assisting in your legendary bond with your horse grow into an inspiration for horse lovers and owners around you. We are enormously proud of all of our clients and students and hope they carry on the gift of knowledge and horsemanship to those around them that may be struggling.
